How many of your Segment MTUs are bots?
Segment bills on monthly tracked users, and bots that run your analytics.js snippet count. The Segment bot audit is a free dbt package that measures the bot share of your MTUs from your own warehouse data.
Segment bot audit: 2025-10-01 to 2026-09-01 (12 months)
------------------------------------------------------------
18.4% of your MTUs look non-human: 221040 of 1201300.
At $10 for each 1,000 MTUs, that is approximately $2210.4.
How it works
- Add the package to your dbt project and set your Segment schema names.
- Run
dbt build. The package reads thepages, tracksandidentifiestables for the last 12 months. - It scores each MTU with seven signals, such as bot user agents, scanner paths and page timing.
- Run
dbt run-operation segment_bot_audit.print_reportto see the bot share and its cost for each month.
The audit needs only the data that analytics.js collects automatically. It works without
identify calls. Your data stays in your warehouse.
